Hidden away in one of Melbourne’s renowned laneways sits two cafes that go hand in hand. Little Rogue houses (and may I say without bias) the best iced matcha I have ever had. And no, I have not been to Japan - but I dare argue that I don’t need to travel there to experience one of their finest creations; when I have this cafe in my concrete backyard. The atmosphere accommodates for those who enjoy their own company, but can also in turn house double daters. They sell their signature matcha blend for customers to recreate at home, as well as small desserts AND their own merchandise to compliment your new addiction to the green powder. @littleroguemelbourne

Just across the way and five steps to your right you’ll hit the infamous sister venue ‘Bakemono’ Bakers. Serving up the well known all-round ‘basic’ croissant staples, as well as concoctions inspired by bakeries in Japan and Korea, you’re sure to find a new favourite breakfast go to. But try to get there before 10am, as this Tik Tok hotspot is relentless for selling out of their most popular goodies early on. @bakemono_bakers

I spent my 25th birthday meandering the laneways of the CBD. ‘The Paperback Bookshop’ drenched in the red glow from the neon signed, long standing Italian restaurant Pellegrini’s, was the perfect cup of tea to end the night. The endless array of piled up bookshelves alongside the blissfully ignorant shopkeeper engrossed in her novel, made the whole experience feel as if you had walked into someone’s home and browsed their personal collection of books. I adored the comfort of the almost claustrophobic space, whilst in turn being amazed at the expansive range of literature on show. Any bookshop open until 9pm is a yes in my books. @paperback_bookshop

Bijou Bottleshop

Are you looking for the perfect after dinner spot to people watch the bluestone tiles of Little Collins street? Or wanted an after work unwind before having to go home and deal with the reality of doing it all again tomorrow? Then look no further, Bijou is the place for you. This bar screams exclusivity due to it’s limited space, but in saying that it only accepts walk in’s. So if you’re wanting to bring a date here, fingers crossed you get a seat. They have a wide array of wines on display and have the knowledge to match. They’ll consistently follow through with their personal recommendations to compliment your pallet. And I guarantee you’ll leave with a new found perception and wealth of knowledge for wine. You just now might be the classiest dinner party guest in your friend group! Whilst couples and friends in fours can crowd the small venue, I have myself enjoyed a couple glasses of red and unavoidably overheard the gossip of the tables surrounding me. Bring a book as a companion so you can live the life of the main character, as you stare out at the beautiful architecture and picture yourself in NYC.
Out of the many wine bars in the CBD, this is and will always be my first choice.

Tucked down in the basement of the WorkClub occupied building, Valhalla is one of the sexiest and sophisticated Scandinavian-inspired bars around town. The comfy aesthetic of their furnishings alongside the seductive lighting sets you up for the perfect pre drinks or nightcap. Their interior is sure to reel you in, and their extensive cocktail menu is sure to keep you there. Alongside the wait staff being incredibly welcoming and attentive, you have the vibiest of curated music playlists in the background to compliment your conversational endeavours. Have a boogie, and a photoshoot in the space for all your instagram followers to be endlessly jealous of your perfect night out. Cause this is THE place to be for that!
